Ballet Chancers is an RTÉ One series factual entertainment series first broadcast Autumn 2008 where Ireland’s premier ballerina, Monica Loughman, embarks on the ultimate challenge. She takes a bunch of streetwise hip hop dancers and teaches them to become elegant ballet dancers in four short months. Months of gruelling rehearsals, tears, tantrums and injuries culminated in a performance of the Nutcracker Suite to a packed audience in Dublin’s Helix theatre last December.
Ballet Chancers rated an average of 26% share, was well-received by critics and has received an IFTA nomination in the best factual category at the 2009 IFTA awards.
